IN PROGRESS: AFlora

As a part of building out a future utopia, I’m exploring how we could aestheticize socialized housing in a post-work, post-capitalist future. Apart from the criticisms that modernist architecture and interiors faced when designers approached communist aesthetics, we know from DIY movements and play with filters or recreation of dances on tik-tok is that even though we homogenize into our niche “monomass” cultures, we like to feel like we’re being unique and customizing or experiencing or creating something ourselves. The act of re-creating and participating in making collectively is important to us. When thinking of socialized housing, we need to find an accessible way to make the space unique and expressive and allow people to take part in making it real. That’s where mixed reality can really amplify the personalization of space. This project will eventually result in a video expressing these ideas partnered with specific designed objects and a range of aesthetics that they can be augmented and played with.

In order to do this I’m exploring and working through 2 things: 1) I’m learning Cinema 4-d and figuring out how to make form and color. 2) Since there will be limited climate I’m also exploring how to augment nature or simulate nature in a digitized way that can be aestheticized and brought not simply indoors, but onto objects, also amplifying the concept of living objects expressed in exploration 1.
